Eeyou Marine Region

The Eeyou Marine Region (EMR) Land Claims Agreement (‘Offshore Agreement’) impacts the five Cree coastal communities of Eeyou Istchee (Whapmagoostui, Chisasibi, Wemindji, Eastmain and Waskaganish).

The Eeyou Marine Region Wildlife Board (EMRWB) created under this agreement is established as the main instrument for managing wildlife in the EMR. It works closely with the CTA in carrying out its mandate of research and preservation of wildlife projects.

Through these activities and collaboration, the Crees gain further knowledge of the evolving reality of their territory and strengthen their ancestral right of sustainably harvesting from the land.
