The Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) / Cree Nation Government and the Cree Trappers' Association invites all coastal tallymen to an Information session regarding mining.
It will be held two days on January 21-22, 2025, in Chisasibi.
This session will be an important opportunity for those involved in mining and exploration activities, as well as for impacted land users and tallymen, to address concerns regarding the ongoing and proposed projects in Eeyou Istchee.
Topics of discussion
Topics of discussion will also include legal obligations and rights in addition to providing an open platform for discussions on the process and to gain feedback.
Key Objectives of the Meeting
1. Provide tallymen with information on the legal obligations of their role outlined in the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement (JBNQA)
2. Review the Cree Nation Government Mining Policy and the proper process for mining activities in Eeyou Istchee
3. Discuss the procedures for Public Development Agreements (PDA) and Impact Benefit Agreements (IBA) with impacted families
4. Clarify the roles of impacted families, local governments, and the Cree Nation Government
5. Explore the involvement of land users in the project development process
6. Conduct a workshop to identify and address concerns of tallymen regarding mining or exploration activities
7. Review and exchange information on the proposed social acceptability report card
